Maternal and Child Health

Information

The purpose of the MCH Program is used to improve the health and well-being of mothers, infants, and children, including children and youth with speical health care needs (CSHCN), and their families. This grant supports a spectrum of services and programs including: implementation of quality improvement initatives and best practices to improve the health of pregnant and postpartum women, education to improve breastfeeding rates and infant safe sleep practices, physical activity and nutrition programming for children, preventive dental visits for children, evidence-based suicide prevention programming in schools, and support of CSHCN families and transition to adulthood. This grant also supports the administrative and personnel costs for the Newborn Screening Program and Children's Special Health Program. Every five years, states are required to conduct a comprehensive statewide needs assessment to be responsive to the changing needs of MCH populations and the systems that serve them.
