Newborn Screening

Information

Newborn screening helps identify babies who may be at risk for over 50 rare, genetic, and inherited health conditions that could cause developmental delays, slow growth, severe illness, brain damage, and possibly death. Infants receive a NBS blood spot screen at 24-48 hours of age and then again at 10-15 days of life, and receive the Critical Congenital Heart Disease screen at 24-48 hours of age.
